What’s the Difference?
If you’re choosing signage for your storefront, you’ve probably come across two popular options: channel letters and light box signs. Both are illuminated, both grab attention after dark, but they work very differently.
Channel Letters
Channel letters are individual, three-dimensional letters — each one built and mounted separately, usually lit from within (or with a halo effect behind them). They give a clean, premium look and are a great fit for businesses that want their name to stand out as its own architectural feature.
Best for: restaurants, retail stores, professional offices, and any business that wants a modern, high-end appearance.
Light Box Signs
A light box sign is a single illuminated panel (or cabinet) with your logo and text printed or applied to the face. It’s a more budget-friendly option and works well when you need a lot of information visible — hours, phone number, promotions — in one panel.
Best for: convenience stores, gas stations, and businesses that need a straightforward, highly visible sign at a lower cost.
Which One Should You Choose?
It depends on your budget, your building’s structure, and the image you want to project. Channel letters tend to look more premium; light boxes tend to be more economical and flexible for changing messages.
